Soft Hamburger Buns

These hamburger buns are soft and delicious and the perfect vessel for your hamburgers, chicken burgers, or sloppy Joe’s. They are so easy to make and are not a huge time commitment.

Whenever I buy hamburger buns at the grocery store, unless we are eating them for dinner that night I tend to forget I have them and when I do they have transformed into something else altogether.

I decided that I needed to find a way to make these buns myself at home. fresh and ready for any burger. when I tell you how soft these buns are and how easy they are to make you will run to your kitchen to try them out yourself.

These buns are the perfect way to eat your homemade hamburgers!

Ingredients you will need

  • Active dry yeast -helps the dough rise for a soft fluffy bun.
  • Warm water – helps the yeast activate
  • Granulated sugar – food for the yeast to rise
  • Vegetable Oil – gives the dough a smooth texture
  • egg – bunds all the ingredients together
  • All-purpose flour – the base to any good bun recipe
  • salt – brings out the flavor of all the ingredients
  • Egg yolk – mix with milk to add a wash to the top of the buns
  • Milk – makes egg wash to give the classic sheen to the to of the bun and gives the sesame seeds something to stick to.
  • Sesame seeds – gives the classic taste and texture of a true hamburger bun.

How to make Amazingly Soft Hamburger Buns

  1. Heat oven to 425° F. line 1 baking sheet with parchment paper or silicone liner.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk yeast into warm water until dissolved. Add sugar and oil. let stand for 5 min until yeast starts to get foamy.
  3. Add egg, flour, and salt. add dough hook to stand mixer and mix until combined.
  4. Kneed on slow speed for 3 minutes until dough is smooth, soft, and has a bounce to the touch. the dough should be slightly sticky.
  5. Divide dough into 8 equal parts. shape each piece into a smooth ball. place on a prepared baking sheet.
  6. cover with a tea towel or lightly greased plastic wrap. allow resting for 10 minutes.
  7. Carefully uncover buns and brush tops with egg wash (egg yolk and milk) sprinkle with sesame seeds. be gentle not to deflate buns.
  8. Bake 10-15 minutes until buns are golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

**Notes – This recipe makes 8 hamburger-sized buns, for smaller buns simply divide into more pieces. Make sure to use 2 pans for basking if making more than 8. not to crown the buns too much.
