Having a home that smells inviting and warm is a priority for a lot of us especially as the holidays are right around the corner and we will be seeing a lot more of our people in and out of our homes. Make this autumn simmer pot and fill your home with the amazing smell of fall.

Ditch all those chemical air fresheners and candles and use these organic scents instead. you will have your family and friends all asking what that amazing smell is.

I went hunting through thrift stores to find the perfect pot to make these in my house easy and safe. This simmer pot was made in a small slow cooker with only one setting and no temperature gauge. I’m pretty sure its original purpose was to keep gravy and sauces warm.

You can also make simmer pots on a larger scale in a pot on the stove. This comes with its perks but also risks so please be careful.

make sure you set your burner to a very low simmer and keep an eye on it. As the simmer pot simmers the water does evaporate and will leave less and less in your pot. If left un attended the water could evaporate entirely and cause the pot to burn and maybe cause a fire.

you can add more water throughout the day or shut it off when it gets too low. Also, use the lid on your pot so that all the water does not disappear quickly just leave it off a slight crack so u can smell the delicious scents.

for someone like me who tends to forget about things easily this small slow cooker with only one setting meant for keeping something warm not for cooking is my preference.

Ingredients you will need to make this autumn simmer pot

  • Apple – I like to use an apple that seams to sit in the fruit bowl, that one that everyone reaches around to get the apple they really want.
  • Cinnamon stick – you can also use ground cinnamon
  • Whole star anise – love the subtle licorice smell of this spice
  • Whole cloves – ground will work also (cleanup is a bit more of a mess that way)
  • Bay leaves – dried or fresh will work
  • water – if you are looking for an extra feeling of calm and cleansing you could use moon or rain water depending on your beliefs of course.
