Making a simple syrup at home can save you money on those store bought brands and even better than that this cinnamon brown sugar simple syrup has such great flavor you wont want to buy the store bought kind ever again.

This simple syrup has a sweet molasses undertone from the brown sugar and a warm kick from the cinnamon stick and vanilla.

This is a simple syrup because it is so easy to make. so lets get started.

Ingredients you will need to make cinnamon brown sugar simple syrup

  • Brown sugar
  • Water
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Vanilla – for a special touch you can use a real vanilla bean, but for budget friendly recipes I like to use vanilla extract.

How to make cinnamon brown sugar simple syrup

1. Add ingredients to pot

add water and brown sugar to a small sauce pan

2. Simmer

stir and bring heat up to a simmer over medium heat. make sure that you stir enough that the sugar dissolves into the water.

add cinnamon stick and allow to simmer for 5 minutes stirring frequently. This is just the best smell to have in your home. If you are going to use a vanilla bean make sure you split it right down the middle then add it at this point with the cinnamon stick.

4. Cool

remove the pot from heat and stir until the simmering stops, the mixture will have reduced in volume slightly and become a bit stickier.

add vanilla and stir. If you add the vanilla while the mixture is too hot you might burn it right off so be sure the syrup has cooled down quite a bit.

5. Store

add syrup to the container you will be storing it in. If you do not have a jar like the one I have pictured, you can use a small mason jar.

allow to cool completely before storing in the fridge, can be stored for 1-2 weeks if refrigerated.
