Nothing hits the spot like cinnamon buns when craving something sweet. especially when they are soft and warm and straight out of the oven.
making cinnamon buns at home is easier than you think. of course, there is a bit of a time commitment so be prepared to wait a bit for rising times. but if you are at home hanging out on a rainy day anyway. why not spend some time making something to fill your heart with joy.
the reality is that even though making these cinnamon buns may take a bit of time they don’t take a lot of effort and can be done while accomplishing other tasks around the house.

Ingredients you will need
- 1 cup warm milk
- 1 tbsp instant yeast
- 2 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 3 tbsp salted butter
- 1 egg
- 3 cup all-purpose flour
Filling
- ½ cup melted butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
Frosting
- 4 oz cream cheese
- ¼ cup salted butter
- 1 cup powdered sugar with extra set aside for consistency
- ½ tsp vanilla
- 1-2 tbsp milk
How to make Cinnamon Buns
- in a large bowl combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. allow the yeast to proof slightly to ensure that the yeast is working. wait only until you start to see some foaming action.
- add salt, butter, and eggs, combine slightly before adding the flour. if you are using a stand mixer use a dough hook and turn the mixer on slowly until flour starts to incorporate then increase speed to a medium. the dough should start to pull away from the sides.
- the dough should feel slightly tacky but not sticky. add more flour slowly to achieve the right consistency.
- transfer the dough to a lightly greased mixing bowl and cover. place in a warm place to rise until the dough has doubled in size. about 1 hour.
- in a 9×13 glass pan, butter the bottom and sides thoroughly.
- once the dough has risen, punch it down and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. roll the dough out to about a 12-inch by 18-inch rectangle.
- brush the dough with melted butter and sprinkle with combined brown sugar and cinnamon.
- roll up tightly lengthwise into one long roll. with a sharp knife cut into 12 1 inch pieces.
- please each bun into the prepared pan, cover, and place back into a warm area to rise for another 30-45 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 325°f. Bake the rolls for 20 minutes or until light golden brown.
- using a hand mixer in a medium bowl whip softened cream cheese, slowly add in the remaining ingredients, and whip until fully combined. Add more or less milk and icing sugar until you reach the desired consistency.
- pour frosting over warm cinnamon rolls. serve warm or cool completely (both are delicious)
