Cracker-Crusted Baked Pork Chops

In this recipe I leave measurements for seasonings, they should be used as guidelines since cooking should be done from the heart. I rarely measure ingredients when making meals like this. the important thing is to season all parts of the dish so that the flavor will carry through.

Ingredients you will need

  • Pork Chops boneless – this can of course be done with bone in chops however the baking time will vary.
  • Cheese flavored crackers – use your favorite brand, in fact most kids of crackers can be used in this recipe. One of my favorite things to do when trying to make dinner is to use whatever we have in the house.
  • Paprika – smoked paprika is preferred for that smoky flavor but any paprika will work as well.
  • Chives- I have dried chives on hand for most of my cooking needs but if you want to use fresh that would work also.
  • Parsley flakes – same as the chives my parsley flakes are dried for convenience but if you have fresh herbs the flavor will be stronger so use with a lighter hand.
  • Italian seasoning – basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme and marjoram can be used if you do not have any Italian seasoning.
  • Salt and Pepper – always season to taste.
  • Eggs – used as a binding agent to help the crust stick to the chops.
  • Milk – to mix with the eggs.

How to make Cracker Crusted Baked Pork Chops

Pre-heat

Pre heat the oven to 350°f. this is a step I am ashamed to admit I used to skip. I always figured it was something that you didn’t really have to do. I was wrong, always pre heat.

Season

For best results allow pork chops to rest on the counter and come to room temperature before seasoning pork chops with salt pepper and smoked paprika on both sides. Then set it aside while you prepare the rest of the coating.

Season boneless pork chops

Mix Cracker Coating

In a shallow bowl larger than the pork chops themselves, crush crackers inside their own bag they do not need to be crushed too much. Pour in adding, salt, pepper, paprika, chives, parsley, and Italian seasoning. mix to combine and set aside. If you have a different kind of cracker on hand you can substitute it in this recipe. I love using the end of most of our cracker boxes this way in recipes.

Egg wash

In a separate bowl crack 2 eggs, add milk, and season with salt and pepper. Whisk with a fork to combine completely and set aside. It is important that you season this layer as well, it will help pack the flavor into your dish.

Assemble all together

Take one of your first pork chops and dip it quickly into the egg mixture, being sure not to allow the egg wash to remove any of the seasonings. turn to coat both sides then place it directly into the crumb mixture.

pork in the egg mixture

To keep the mess to a minimum dedicate on hand to the egg bowl and the other to the crumb bowl and you will not end up coating your fingers in the end.

pork in the crumb mixture

Repeat the process in the cracker mixture coating both sides as evenly as possible, don’t worry if you have some bare spots. Because we seasoned all the layers there will not be any part of the pork chop that will lack in flavor.

Bake

Place pork chops on a lined baking sheet and bake in the oven for 10 minutes before flipping them over and baking for another 10-15 minutes until the pork is cooked fully and the coating has turned slightly golden on the edges. Cooking times can vary based on your oven and the size or type of pork chop you are using. Make sure you keep an eye on them and use my time as a guideline and not a rule.

follow these steps and you will have delicious cracker-crusted baked pork chops in less than 30 minutes!

Notes

Oven temperatures and pork chop sizes can vary, so check the temperature of your pork chop to be sure it is fully cooked.
seasoning should always be done to taste, I did not measure when I was making this dish but I did give measurements so you could gauge how much I used. the important thing is that you season all layers, eggs, coating and the chops themselves will give you maximum flavor.
