Its always nice to have muffin liners in all the different colours, textures and holiday designs. But even though you know you have about 100 of them somewhere in the house, you may not be able to find them right now to make some delicious muffins. So I’m going to show you how I make these DIY muffin liners with parchment paper.
I’m not going to lie to you the first time I tried to make my muffin liners I was overwhelmed. I decided it just wasn’t worth my time. Now that I have done it this way I have realized that it actually isn’t all that hard and can be done in just a matter of minutes.
Making them this way is also practical since you can make any muffin you want and the batter won’t stick. I do also like the way they look, they almost have an elevated look to them
How to make DIY muffin liners
1. Accordion fold the parchment paper.
you want to eyeball measure the parchment paper in width. you don’t need to be super accurate with any of these measurements at all just a rough estimate about how wide you paper is will work. Decide how long half that measurement would be and make your first fold that length from the end of the roll.
keep accordion folding back and forth until you have 6 strips half as wide as t hey are long.
2. cut the strips
using a very sharp pair of scissors or a knife if you feel comfortable. glide the edge of your scissors along the folded parts of the paper and cut until you have 6 long rectangles.
3. Make squares
you can either eyeball it or you can fold the rectangles in half to find the mid point. Cut the rectangle in half and you should now have 12 fairly even squares .
remember they don’t have to be perfect. you can do these one at a time or you can stack them as many as you can keep together and cut them all at once. I found that my parchment paper was a bit slippery to fold together so i did them in 2 batches.
4. fold the squares
you want to fold the square papers down the middle twice (once each way) to find the middle.
5. cut
you then can cut on each fold about half way from the edge of the paper to the middle of the square. You don’t have to be exact just eyeball it again but do not cut too far in. this step can also be done one at a time or in batches. however you feel comfortable.
6. shape
place the parchment paper muffin liners on one of you muffin tray sections and using something like a cup or shot class that will fit push them down. fixing ay part of the paper that curls the right way.
leave something heavy in the liners until you are done making whatever batter you would like to make. I only had one shot glass so I used some of my spice jars to hold each paper down until I was done making the batter.
enjoy!
