How to make French Onion Smothered Pork Chops

1. Chop Onions

Peel onions and cut in half, slice into thin slices. Cut the top of the onion off to create a flat area then slice down the middle through the roots. Peel the thin layer off the outside of the onion then slice as thinly as possible horizontal to the root.

2. Cook the Onions down

To a large pot add butter and oil then heat until melted, add onions and begin to cook. Keep the pan on a medium heat and cook slowly so you don’t burn the onions.

Sauté onions for 4-5 minutes until they have softened slightly. Add 4 tablespoons of beef broth. season the onions with salt and pepper if desired.

3. Fry the pork

Season pork chops with salt, pepper, and thyme.

Remove onions from the pot and add set them aside. Add seasoned pork chops to the frying pan cooking on either side for 2-3 minutes to brown both sides. You should hear a slight simmer when the pork hits the pan, if it’s too loud turn the heat down. Remove and set aside in a bowl or plate that won’t spill the juices from the pork chops. Do not throw away the juice you can pour it over the chops when you bake them.
