This time of year making grilled asparagus is just a given. good fresh and even home grown asparagus is popping up everywhere. There are many ways to cook asparagus but one of my favorite ways is on the grill.
Most of the time we are already cooking on the BBQ anyways. No sense heating up the house especially when BBQ season here in Canada is so short.
this is how I do it.
Ingredients you will need to make grilled asparagus
- Asparagus
- Olive oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Lemon zested
- Lemon juiced
- Garlic
How to make grilled asparagus
1. Prepare
line a BBQ baking sheet with tin foil
grab 1 piece of asparagus and snap the bottom off, the vegetable will naturally snap at the right spot removing the tough part of the stem
place the asparagus on the lined bbq sheet in a single layer.
2. Season the asparagus
spray or drizzle with olive oil
season with salt pepper and garlic
3. Add lemon
roll a lemon on the counter to loosen the juices inside
zest about half the lemon straight onto the asparagus the cut a juice half the lemon onto the vegetable
4. Grill
your BBQ should have a medium to low flame
place the sheet on the grill and allow to cook, flipping the vegetable and rotating their positions occasionally until the asparagus is fully cooked.
about 10-15 minutes
cooking time depends on how you like it, if you like a softer asparagus you can cook longer, I like them to still have a bit of a snap to them.
