Why buy burgers from the grocery store that have no flavor and cost way more than they are worth when you can make home made BBQ burgers for a fraction of the price and make them taste 10 times better. pack them with flavor and have them fresh.
The last few years have been rough on all of us especially in the financial department. so I have been on a mission at home to make some of our favorite foods we love to eat out at home. Even the foods we used to buy frozen for convenience, making them at home only takes a bit more time. they are however less expensive and taste so much better.
For even more savings and great taste making your own Homemade hamburger buns. They are easy and delicious. The time commitment is very little which is so important these days.
Ingredients you will need
- Ground beef – Fresh or frozen, make sure to fully thaw before making burgers.
- Ground pork or pork chuck (optional) – adds extra flavor and moisture to the burger
- eggs – helps to bind the patty together
- panko or bread crumbs – adds filler to the burger (for extra flavor crush crackers or chips instead)
- Seasonings – most important part, add flavor to your dish
- Salt and Pepper – brings out the natural flavor of the beef and pork
How to make Home Made BBQ Burgers
- In a large bowl add ground beef and pork chuck. if using frozen meat make sure the meat has thawed out completely before starting.
- Add 2 eggs and all the seasonings you want. I rarely use measuring spoons for this type of recipe. you really need to measure with your heart. I have included measurements as a suggestion.
- using your clean bare hands mix and squish all the ingredients together. making sure the seasonings are well distributed throughout.
- flatten the meat into the bowl and using your hand make division marks in a pie shape on the top of the meat to help divide the mixture evenly.
- remove each section and shape and flatten into a burger shape. make the burger flatter and larger in diameter than how large you want to end result to be. the meat will shrink and get taller while cooking on the BBQ.
- Press a thumbprint into the middle of each burger so it doesn’t puff up too much in the middle.
- place burgers on a plate and chill in the fridge for at least 1 hour.
- Warm up the BBQ to medium heat. once the grill is warmed up delicately place he burgers directly on the grill.
- allow the burgers to cook about halfway through. You can see the color change on the meat at the sides of the burger. once the color has reached the midpoint, using a spatula turn burger 90 degrees to make a crosshatch on the burger.
- Cook for a while longer then flip the burger.
- Cook burgers to the desired amount and follow safe food guidelines. moving the burgers around to ensure they do not stick and do not overcook.
- place on a burger bun add desired toppings and enjoy.
