These pizza roll buns merge a cinnamon roll structure and the taste of pizza that will blow your mind. Words can not express how happy I was when these came out of the oven. the smell and the texture and beyond all that the cheese pull was something of a beautiful thing.

This idea came around when I needed to come up with lunch for my husband to take to work. His go to lunch is normally leftovers from dinner, however this time we did not have any leftovers for him to take so I got creative.

I’m so incredibly happy that I made these pizza roll buns because I’m sure I have now found a new favorite snack, lunch or even dinner.

Ingredients you will need

  • Pizza yeast activates and adds air to the dough to create a soft and fluffy texture.
  • Water – brings all the ingredients together and activates yeast.
  • Sugar – feeds the yeast
  • Flour – adds the body to the dough
  • Salt – brings out the flavor of the dough
  • Olive Oil – smooths and brings flavor to the recipe
  • Pizza sauce – any kind will do. use your favorite or make your own.
  • Mozzarella cheese – grate your favorite kind.
  • Pizza toppings – I used peperoni and bacon bits, you can choose to use what you like on your pizza.

How to make Pizza Bun Rolls

  1. In a large bowl add water, yeast, and sugar. mix slightly and wait for the bubbles to start forming.
  2. add flour salt and olive oil. mix with spoon until it starts to come together. turn out onto clean dry surface and kneed until smooth and bounces back to the touch.
  3. place back into the bowl that has been sprayed lightly with cooking spray, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  4. preheat oven to 450°f
  5. divide the dough into 2, roll out the first half to about 12 inches wide and 20 inches long. nice and thin.
  6. spread a thin layer of pizza sauce and a thin layer of cheese. starting on the short side roll up tight until you have a small log. repeat the process with the second half of the dough. place log at the end of the second half and continue rolling until you have 1 larger log.
  7. cut log into 8 equal slices
  8. place on a lined baking sheet, and flatten each roll. top with cheese and desired toppings. I used bacon bits and pepperoni.
  9. bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes or until golden brown.

  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
