Pumpkin Pies are a staple this time of year, whether you are celebrating a holiday or just simply looking for that taste of the fall season making pumpkin pie at home is a lot easier than you may think.

Pumpkin Pie

We love to top this pie with a quick and easy home made whipped cream. absolutely delicious and so easy you will never regret that home made flavor.

You can make this pie using a store bought crust, there are so many great options for that of course. you can also use a home made recipe, I have a great one here you can make that is so flaky and buttery you will fall in love.

Ingredients you will need

  • Pumpkin pure – use any brand you like, you can also bake the pure in the oven on a cookie sheet before mixing in the rest of the ingredients for a richer flavor.
  • Sugar – added for sweetness
  • Brown sugar- added for sweetness as well as a deep rich molasses flavor.
  • Ground cloves – a very aromatic spice that gives a warm flavor to the dish.
  • Cinnamon – this spice has a slight spice perfect for fall recipes.
  • Allspice – this spice is a dried berry, with similar flavors to cloves, nutmeg and pepper.
  • Ginger – a sweet flavor with a hint of spice
  • Nutmeg- a warm nutty flavor
  • Salt – brings out the flavors of the rest of the ingredients.
  • Vanilla – a flavor that some say reminds them of marshmallows.
  • Eggs – binds all the ingredients together.
  • Heavy cream – can be substituted but be aware that you will change the flavor and texture of the pie if you do. please leave me comments if you have tried alternative dairy or dairy free products.

How to make Pumpkin Pie

1. Pre-heat oven

preheat oven to 425°f

2. Par- Bake your pie crust.

Partially bake your pie crust according to the instructions. If you are using store bought dough it will say on the package, and if you are using homemade dough the directions should have instructions for that.

Poke holes in pie crust to prevent bubbling

follow pie crust instructions for custard filled pies. Remove pie crust from oven and allow to cool completely.

3. Mix filling

in a large bowl add pumpkin pure, sugar, brown sugar, and seasonings. using a whisk mix until everything is well combined.

add vanilla, eggs, and heavy cream. continue to whisk until everything is fully combined.

4. Fill Pie crust

pour filling into cooled crust, do not overfill but fill right up to the top leaving just a slight crust visible around the edges.

5. Bake

place the pie plate on a baking tray for easier removal from the oven and also to catch any drips that might happen.

place in the pr heated oven for 15 minutes then lower temperature of the oven to 350°f for 30-35 minutes.

pie should not have any wiggle in the middle.

6. Top with whipped cream and serve.
