Grandmas Chili for 12

a chili recipe I found in my Grandmas cook book. very simple but delicious recipe.

Ingredients
  

  • 2 lb ground beef
  • 2 tsp shortening
  • 2 cup water
  • 2 cans tomato soup
  • 2 15 oz can kidney beans
  • 3 tbsp chili powder
  • ½ pkg onion soup mix
  • 2 tsp salt

Optional additions

  • sour cream
  • shredded cheese
  • French bread
  • garlic butter

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet brown ground beef, peel and dice the onion and add to the beef. cook until the beef is no longer showing any pink and the onion has become almost clear.
  • in a large saucepan add cooked meat and onions, as well as tomato soup, drained kidney beans, chili powder, onion soup mix, water, and shortening.
  • salt and pepper to taste.
  • over medium heat bring the temperature up to a soft boil. turn the heat down to low and simmer for 1 hour.
  • serve with a dollop of sour cream, and sprinkle with cheddar cheese.
  • slice French bread into 1-inch slices and spread garlic butter on both sides. grill in a frying pan until golden brown.
