Soft Hamburger Buns

Equipment

  • 1 Bowl
  • 1 cookie sheet
  • 1 stand mixer with dough hook optional
  • 1 cooling rack

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • cup vegitable oil
  • 1 egg lightly beaten
  • cup all-purpose flour plus more for kneading and shaping
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tbsp sesame seeds

Instructions
 

  • Heat oven to 425° F. line 1 bakings sheet with parchment paper or silicone liner.
  • In a large bowl, whisk yeast into warm water until dissolved. Add sugar and oil. let stand for 5 min until yeast starts to get foamy.
  • Add egg, flour, and salt. add dough hook to stand mixer and mix until combined.
  • Kneed on slow speed for 3 minutes until dough is smooth, soft, and has a bounce to the touch. the dough should be slightly sticky.
  • Divide dough into 8 equal parts. shape each piece into a smooth ball. place on a prepared baking sheet.
  • Cover with a tea towel or lightly greased plastic wrap. allow resting for 10 minutes.
  • Carefully uncover buns and brush tops with egg wash (egg yolk and milk) sprinkle with sesame seeds. be gentle not to deflate buns.
  • Bake 10-15 minutes until buns are golden brown. Transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

This recipe makes 8 hamburger-sized buns, for smaller buns simply divide into more pieces. Make sure to use 2 pans for basking if making more than 8. not to crown the buns too much.
